How To Save Money On Pallets

Posted on

Pallets are sometimes a necessary aspect of storing or moving products. That doesn't mean you need to spend a fortune on them. The following are ways to reduce your pallet costs.

Buy in Bulk

You will get a better deal on almost any product if you can buy in large quantities. Speak with a supplier of pallets to see what kinds of quantities you would need to order to qualify for a discount.

Consider Used Pallets

Used pallets are a great buy if you can find them in dimensions that work for you. Used pallets may be directly sold from someone else's leftover materials and inventory, or they may be pallets that are remade from old pallets to fit your specifications. Even if you need to customize the pallets by adding your own logo, you may still save money by buying used.

Refurbish and Conserve

Don't throw away pallets just because they arrive at your location damaged. There are many refurbishing and recycling programs for pallets. You can have damaged pallets picked up and refurbished so that you can use them again in a later shipment. They will be returned to you with any issues fixed.

Order Ahead of Time

A potential discount to consider is getting pallets made well in advance of when you need them. Although you can't always plan a long time ahead of a shipment, you will likely get a discount if you can. Call your pallet providers to see what the costs would be for a longer lead time.

Sell Pallets Back to a Recycling Company

If you don't have the resources to reuse broken pallets yourself, consider selling or donating them to a recycling facility. Some companies will buy old pallets in order to resell them or use the wood for something else. At the very least, you might find a company that will pick up old pallets. That will help you reduce the costs of disposing of large amounts of material that you're done using.

Getting the right quantities of pallets at the right price can be challenging. It's important to look for vendors carefully and give yourself time to find the right person. Don't follow the status quo with your pallet purchases. There is likely a way that you can reduce the costs of buying them, increase your ability to reuse them, or save some money by recycling them. This, in turn, will give you a higher profit margin on any products you sell.
